House Cleaning Tips: How to Clean Your Toilet

Believe it or not, after the kitchen, the bathroom is one of the most used rooms in the house. So, just like any other space in your home, it should be cleaned regularly and properly. But, contrary to common belief, toilet cleaning does not just take simple spraying of cleaning liquid and brushing. There’s more to it than just that.

The good news is that you can leave all this work to April Lane’s Home Cleaning and relax. For decades, our company has offered house cleaning and maid services in Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, and Mercer Island. In this blog, we list the step-to-step procedure of cleaning a toilet.

Invest in a Good Toilet Brush

This is an essential tool for your house cleaning routine. The brush’s head is shaped so that it can reach all the places in the bowl. Its bristles have a firmness that makes it possible to scrub without flicking toilet water and any other particles. A toilet brush should also be easily disposable, convenient, and sanitary to store.

Reduce the Water Level in the Bowl

The toilet bowl cleaner has to be undiluted for it to be efficient in sanitizing the porcelain. For this reason, you might want to drain the toilet water. While there are several approaches to this, the easiest and quickest way is by pouring water into the toilet while aiming at the back where it exits the bowl. This step triggers the flushing action and drains the water out.

Apply Disinfectant to the Bowl’s Interior

Start at the bowl’s top and work towards the bottom. Although some cleaners will come in angled-spout bottles making work easier, you’ll still have to exert strength while spraying the liquid out. If you’re dealing with stubborn stains, you might want to let the disinfectant sit for a while.

Scrub and Rinse

With the disinfectant inside the bowl, it is now time to use your toilet brush to scrub thoroughly. While at it, ensure you hold it firmly enough to lift anything stuck on the surface. To avoid any splatter, ensure the head of the brush stays inside the bowl. Do not forget to clean down the drain and under the lip. As for rinsing, the built-in flush feature has got your back. As a final step, it wouldn’t hurt to wipe down the toilet’s exterior using paper towels and disinfect the toilet brush and its holder.

As you can see, cleaning a toilet is quite a simple task. However, we at April Lane’s Home Cleaning would be happy to step in if you have other more pressing matters to attend to.
